The Most Articulate

Sarah's birthday weekend saw the Articulate Northeners v's Southeners challenge.
Exactly who was the most articulate?

Here we have the southern team...
Above - Sam, Clare, Helen and Ali
and below - Kirsten, Naomi and Amanda

Their opponents the Northeners... Sarah, Sarah and Clare

And Gaynor, Rach and me.

For those of you who don't know the game Articulate, clues are given to describe certain things, people, places, objects and so on.

My favourite part of the evening came as one of the Southern team had to describe 'people'. The clue given was excellent I thought, "There are 12 of these in the Bible", how easy! All of of us there were Christians and familiar with the Bible. I'm sure most of you out there already know the answer, even if you don't know the Bible that well!

"There are 12 of these in the Bible"....the answer given...."dwarfs". We laughed and mocked for a long time :-)

So after answers like that from the southern team it was clearly obvious that the northerns were going to win it, and that we did!

Comments

After having to delete some not very nice comments from my blog a while ago I have requested that all comments come to me via email so that I can look at them before I allow them to go on my blog. Which is why if you post a comment it doesn't appear immediately, it has to wait until I've checked my email.

Hope you are all having a good day. I like the fact that spring is on its way :-)

26 days and counting!

This is where I'm going in 26 days time.
Look at the snow! Hopefully it will still be there when I go so that we can go sledging down hills.
So looking forward to my little holiday.

An unexpected but pleasant trip to Oak Hill, a camp reunion and a late Valentine’s Day celebration…

It has been a busy weekend!

The plan was to leave for the camp reunion on Thursday and stop over in Birmingham on the way to celebrate Valentine’s Day with Bex. (About six years ago me and Bex decided that it was stupid that we couldn’t go out on Valentine’s Day just because we were single. So ever since then we have always met up to do something.) However this year I was stood up as Bex wasn’t very well. So wondering what to do instead I rang Helen at 4 p.m. and by 9:30 p.m. I was in her little flat in London. We stayed up into the early hours of the morning drinking tea and chatting, I thought about getting up early to go to Friday chapel but as I hardly ever made it in for Friday chapel when I was a student I didn’t want to break the tradition so went in for coffee break instead!!

It was really nice to see people and catch up. I visited the book room were I still have to urge to whisper, I keep thinking it’s a library! My vicar was slightly horrified in last week’s staff meeting when it came up in conversation that I hadn’t read Calvin’s institutes. I had always meant to read them but somehow never…so I bought them from the book room and hope to read them. After a trip into Southgate with Helen and lunch in the dining room it felt like I’d never left. Then it was off to see Neil and Anna and meet James. Very cute, photos will follow.

After part one of the weekend was over it was off to Streatley & Goring Youth Hostel for Ashville 3’s camp reunion. It was great to see members again, especially 4 girls who were in my dorm in the summer, still loud, enthusiastic and lovely! We looked at some of the Psalms in our focus meetings and also had an impromptu Bible study on Zephaniah. The Zephaniah Bible study came about after one of the questions in the quiz on the Saturday night…"Zephaniah is a book of the Bible, True or False", leaders weren’t allowed to help and the members were very unsure until one lad stated, "Zephaniah is definitely not a book in the Bible". Steve J, who is not one to miss an opportunity, looked at what Zephaniah was all about. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a sermon or done Bible studies on Zephaniah so I found it very useful and really enjoyed looking at this book.
Games, walks, Dorm time, meals, lots of banter and late nights completed the weekend.

By Sunday afternoon Bex was feeling better so en route home I stopped in Birmingham and we went out to eat pizza. She also made me write my 2007 goals, which we usually do over New Year. Bex has made me do this for the last few years and I have actually managed to achieve several things like reading books that I wanted to / needed to read, learning how to do Sudoko, writing essays by earlier deadlines and keeping in touch with people. I have never succeeded in achieving all my goals but some at least.

This year some of my goals include reading Calvin’s Institutes Volume 1, finishing at least one of the ten started cross stitches that I have started, committing to memory some of the psalms and learning how to knit. I was meant to learn how to knit last year but failed. Apparently knitting two stitches in a scarf me mum made me didn’t count as learning how to knit. Bex has since bought me a starter knitting kit complete with instructions, pattern and enough wool to make a pair of babies’ booties. If I succeed you’ll all be getting scarves for Christmas!!!

All in all a good few days :-)

Sarah's Birthday Weekend - Part 2

Saturday afternoon we spent on Black Rock Sands...I don't think I've ever driven across a beach in a car before so I found it all very exciting.

We played frisby, which you think is a very easy game to play but it's really not! Although Kristen is very good at it :-)

In the evening we had a lovely meal and then played 'Articulate'...northeners v's southeners - who do you think is the most articulate? All will be revealed in a later post.

A few random photos!

What do you think my dad is doing here? He claims he wasn't asleep and listening to me but it is very clear that this is not the case!

Jan & Murray...I like these people.

Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without me mum in her Christmas pinny...which does only come out on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!

This is Lizzie on her visit to Liverpool a while ago. As you can see she is very much enjoying her trip.

She also brought her toy monkey...but was very protective of him and wouldn't let me get a photo of him. But I eventually managed it.

Sarah's Birthday Weekend - Part 1

So a few weekends ago a group of about 15 of us headed to Criccieth to celebrate Sarah's 30th birthday with her. This may come as a shock to you, but yes Sarah is now 30 despite her youthful looks. The group consisted of many females, a few males braved the group - Sarah's dad, brother and little Caleb.

A few members of the group (who shall remain nameless) found getting to Criccieth quite a challenge...partly because they hadn't quite mastered Welsh. Therefore Sarah found it difficult to work out where they where let alone give them directions!!! They eventually arrived about 12:30 pm.

On Saturday we headed out to see the delights of Criccieth...this is the group working out whether or not it was worth paying the £3 to go up to Criccieth Castle. We decided it wasn't worth it but took the opportuity for a group photo.

And besides we could still see the castle from the beach!!

Before you think that all we did for the weekend was potter about chatting, some members of our group did try and learn a few new things. Here are Naomi and Helen finding out facts about birds.

Sam tried to learn how to skim stones, not sure how successful she was.

And then, along with Ali, went for a paddle. All a bit too cold for me so I decided just to take a photo instead.
