Summer Holiday....

Guess where I'm going on Monday...

It's not in England

You have to go on a plane

They use Euros

They speak Spanish ( I think!)

It's hot

Have you guessed yet?

I'm off to Alcudia which is on the island of Majorca for a week. Yeah!
Have just been to visit my mate Bex who I used to live with when I was in Birmingham, we headed into Thomas Cook wanting a nice little holiday somewhere hot and not too in your face at a reasonable price. Kelly, the woman helping us, was lovely and not at all irritated after an hour an a half checking through loads of different deals.

The best thing about booking a late deal is that we don't have to wait that long to go. Normally you book a holiday and are all excited but have to wait months for departure date to arrive. I only have to wait another 4 days (which is good for you lot as you don't have an excited Dawn going on about her holidays for months and months!!) And another good thing about late deals....normally when you are going on holiday you decide to go on a diet to get into that size 8 bikini for your holiday....which of course you never achieve! I've only got 4 days till I go so no diet for me :-)

That's all for today

Well I'm now up and blogging.

You may be wondering about the name 'Sister Dawn'... it's not that after 3 years at theological college I've been convinced to become a nun. Was at a wedding last week in York and Sally and I stayed in a convant. The next day we ordered a taxi to go back to the church to retrieve my abandoned car and the taxi driver thought that he was picking up two nuns, referring to me as 'Sister Dawn' - quite amusing!

I don't actually think I could be a nun (for many reasons!) the main one being the fact that you have to remain silent for a large proportion of the day :-)

And there was me worried that I'd have nothing to say on a blog............

Why women talk so much - and men so little

I found this in a newspaper ages ago...Although, I do know some men who could almost out talk me!

Research shows that women can speak 20,000 to 25,000 words a day compared to a man's paltry 7,000 to 10,000. And in childhood, not only to girls start talking earlier than boys but a 3 year old girl has nearly twice the vocabulary of a boy of the same age. Why is this the case? For males, speech is not a specific brain skill. It operates solely in the left of the brain but has no specific location.
When a man talks, brain scans show that the entire left hemisphere of his brain becomes active as it searches to find a centre for speech, but is unable to find one. Consequently, men aren't physically equipped to be good at talking. Women, however, have specific areas in the brain devoted to speech, located primarily in the front left hemisphere with another smaller specific area in the right hemisphere. Having speech in both hemispheres means that, unlike men, women can talk and watch TV at the same time for example, or talk about several different subjects at once. Male brains are highly compartmentalised and have the ability to separate and store information. At the end of a day full of problems, a man's brain can file them all away. If he's used up his 7,000 word quota he really has no desire to communicate any more - he's happy to fire gaze or read the paper. The female brain, on the other hand, does not store information in this way - the problems just keep going round in her head and she needs to talk them through. If she has used up her 20,000 words during the day, she may be happy just to sit back and relax quietly but if she hasn't had the opportunity to chat enough she feels the need to speak the remaining balance of her quota. Men can percieve this as nagging - but its not. Her objective is to discharge the problems, not find conclusions or solutions.

Next time you hear a woman talking away just remember it was actually God who created us like that! "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them" Genesis 1:27
