A Knight's Quest

Before holiday club my flat was taken over by all sorts of resources that would being used during the week. Me and Grace spent a very enjoyable Sunday afternoon watching Friends, drinking cups of tea and eating homemade brownies and painting shields. Being a children's worker is not all bad :-)

Meet Sir Prancelot and Jester-a-minute below...they spent the whole week trying to enter the wonderful kingdom behind them. Princess Sweet Pea set them all sorts of quests which they both failed miserably. For the last quest Princess Sweet Pea sent Sir Prancelot off to the dragon's lair to steal the dragon's treasure. If he came back with the treasure they would be able to enter the kingdom.

However, Sir Prancelot was captured by the dragon who demanded a ransom had to be paid for his release. Jester-a-minute was very upset as she had no money to pay the ransom, nor did Sir P. Then a mysterious stranger turned up who offered to go and pay the ransom and rescue Sir Prancelot, which he did and Jester-a-minute and Sir Prancelot were united. It turned out that the mysterious stranger was no ordinary person but he was in fact the King of the Kingdom!!!!

We used this to then link into the idea of how we can be part of God's kingdom both now and for eternity using stories from Mark's gospel. We met lots of people. First we met Jesus the King. His message was to repent and believe the good news. Then we met the blind man. Jesus helped him see. We thought about how we need God to help us understand that Jesus is the King, we simply can't see it for ourselves. We met the rich man who had kept all of God's laws but he loved his money more than God so would never enter God's kingdom. Granted he might not be have been as bad as he could have been but he certainly wasn't good enough. So that left us with a bit of a wake up call. No-one can ever enter God's kingdom on our own merits, so how can we be part of God's kingdom? On the last day we found out how....we can be part of God's Kingdom because of what Jesus the King has done. He paid the ransom for people by dying on the cross so that people could be forgiven by God and enter his kingdom.

We had a fantastic week! What a privilege it is to teach children about Jesus. We saw many prayers answered.

(I took this material and adapted it slightly from another children's worker in the area. She had taken it and adapted it from other churches in Basingstoke and Dagenham. Resoureces had been passed around the country which is brilliant. Holiday clubs take an age to prepare from scratch...it's great that God has given some people real creativity that can then benefit children all over the country)

We don't have a church hall so we have to use the space in the church building. It is massive but sticking up a few gazebos really does help create little areas. Below the 'Archer' group where many a plastic arrow was shot!
